This Australian energy major wanted to enhance their resource productivity with a highly available, scalable, and responsive environment which entailed doing away with legacy technologies and embracing the Microsoft ecosystem.

This transformation necessitated having a partner who could adhere to Microsoft’s best practices. Equipped with a thorough knowledge of legacy apps and expertise in transforming them to business apps on Office 365, Infosys emerged as a partner of choice for this customer in their transformation journey.

Key Challenges

There is no better way to achieve resource productivity than by automating business processes and optimizing workflows. For this reason, the client went the whole nine yards and converted most of their application background processes into InfoPath forms and Nintex workflows, based on an on-premise SharePoint 2010 system. However, this setup was complex in itself, and often locked up computing resources, due to jobs or processes running on endless loops. The obstacles were largely due to:

  • Existing technologies like InfoPath were on the verge of reaching end-of-life support. Involvement of older technology platforms like on-premise SharePoint 2010 and third-party products (such as Nintex), which posed a problem for platform maintenance
  • Redundant process flows associated with InfoPath forms
  • The forms were accessible only through client’s domain joined devices (using VPN)
  • The cost to maintain these applications was higher because of the party licensing (Nintex workflows) and maintenance of on-premise servers
  • Huge volumes [140+ forms and associated 120+ workflows], with a mix of different complexities, stringent timelines, and challenging environments

The Solution

Modernizing business applications and processes

From workflow analysis and transformation planning to design, development, and post-migration support, Infosys helped this customer onboard the Microsoft ecosystem and do away with their legacy technologies with its gamut of offerings under Infosys Cobalt. Team Infosys began with a comprehensive assessment of their existing inventory of 200+ InfoPath forms and associated Nintex workflows. The in-house analysis accelerator helped fast-track the process of analyzing the inventory and categorizing the forms and workflows based on their complexity and functions.

What did we do?

  • Infosys used an in-house accelerator, which helped fast-track the process of analyzing the inventory and categorizing the forms and workflows based on their complexity and function
  • All forms were transformed to business applications and were accessible anytime, anywhere, and on any device. Users working on energy generation sites no longer depended on domain joined devices to perform their activities and could now perform them using mobile devices
  • Power Automate was used to replace third-party workflow engines and helped automate all processes
  • Templates were created for Power Apps solutions to reduce development efforts while creating new apps

Achieve resource productivity by automating business processes and optimizing workflows

  • Creating highly scalable, available, and responsive applications. Users can access these applications anywhere, anytime using any device, thus improving productivity
  • Removing third-party products and on-premise infrastructure dependencies can reduce cost and minimize efforts on maintenance
  • Reusing templates to save efforts in development of new applications
